RiverLands Gateway Park will be the welcoming front door to the Chattahoochee RiverLands Showcase Site in Cobb County. Located at the intersection of Discovery Boulevard and Mableton Parkway, this new riverfront park will connect people to trails, the Chattahoochee River, and one of metro Atlanta’s most significant outdoor destinations.
Trust for Public Land acquired the property in 2023 to protect it from development and create a signature public park celebrating the river. Construction begins in 2026, with the first phase opening in 2027.

RiverLands Gateway Park is designed to bring people to the Chattahoochee River—and then connect them to everything beyond it. As the southern gateway to the Chattahoochee RiverLands Showcase Site, the park will link the Chattahoochee RiverLands Greenway, the Mableton Parkway Greenway, and the Silver Comet Trail while providing direct access to the river through a new kayak launch and boat ramp.
The park will also close a critical gap in public river access, creating a new launch site along the Chattahoochee. Whether arriving by foot, bicycle, kayak, or car, visitors will have a welcoming place to begin exploring the Chattahoochee RiverLands.
RiverLands Gateway Park demonstrates how conservation, recreation, and ecological restoration can work together to transform a community. In 2020, a proposal to build a warehouse on this property prompted residents and local leaders to advocate for protecting the site instead. Trust for Public Land purchased the property in 2023 with a different vision: preserving the riverfront as public open space and creating a gateway to the Chattahoochee River.
Today, Trust for Public Land and Cobb County are partnering to transform nearly 15 acres into a regional destination that combines outdoor recreation with environmental stewardship. The first phase includes new trail connections, parking, restrooms, a river overlook, kayak launch, boat ramp, open lawn, and nature-inspired play opportunities, while restoring wetlands, meadows, woodlands, and native habitat. Approximately one-sixth of the initial investment is dedicated to ecological restoration, ensuring the park improves water quality, supports wildlife, and creates healthier habitat for pollinators and other native species while welcoming thousands of visitors to the river each year.
Trust for Public Land has partnered with local leaders and community partners to design, fund, and deliver this $9 million riverfront park which includes:
Future improvements will continue building the park into a premier regional destination with additional recreation amenities, gathering spaces, and trail connections that support the long-term Chattahoochee RiverLands vision.

Chattahoochee RiverLands Pedestrian Trail Bridge
The City of Smyrna and Trust for Public Land are exploring a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge across the Chattahoochee River. This bridge could improve connections between existing and planned trail systems in Smyrna and Atlanta while creating new opportunities for recreation, mobility, and access to the river. Share your input on project priorities, potential uses, and how this connection could serve the community.
