Project

overview

The RiverLands Bridge project will study the feasibility, alignment, and design of a new dedicated pedestrian and bicycle bridge across the Chattahoochee River connecting Cobb County and the City of Atlanta. Led by the City of Smyrna, the 18-month effort will expand opportunities for recreation, outdoor access, and active transportation while creating a vital regional connection between the Silver Comet Trail, the Proctor Creek Greenway, and the Atlanta BeltLine.

Connecting

the RiverLands

Part of the bigger vision, the RiverLands Bridge will connect people with the river, nature, parks, and trails across the region. The new bridge will give people a safe and easy way to walk, bike, and explore both sides of the Chattahoochee River. It will help connect nearby neighborhoods, parks, and trails, including the Silver Comet Trail, Proctor Creek Greenway, and the Atlanta BeltLine.

The project team will study different bridge locations, create early design ideas, and gather community feedback to help shape the project. The bridge is planned as more than just a crossing—it is part of a larger network of Greenway, Blueway, and Tributary trails that make it easier for people to enjoy the outdoors, stay active, and experience the river in new ways.

Background

& vision

The Chattahoochee River has long served as both a defining natural feature and a physical barrier between neighboring communities. This project reimagines the river as a point of connection through the planning and design of a dedicated crossing for people walking and biking. Funded through federal support and led by the City of Smyrna, the effort will establish a shared vision for improved mobility, expanded river access, and stronger regional connectivity along the Chattahoochee corridor
