The Chattahoochee RiverLands Greenway Trail at Riverview Park in Smyrna is a new key addition to the RiverLands Showcase Project—an ambitious vision to reconnect people to the Chattahoochee River across metro Atlanta. Funded by the Trust for Public Land and the City of Smyrna, this 0.3-mile paved section will serve as the northern gateway to the full Showcase corridor once complete.
Scheduled to open in 2026, this multi-use path will link over 1,000 nearby residents to the river and offer an inviting starting point for walkers, runners, and cyclists of all ages. As new families move into Smyrna and the region grows, the trail will become a welcoming place for neighbors and visitors alike to engage with the river and one another.

Set within Smyrna’s Riverview Park, this compact but powerful stretch of trail will bring users into close contact with the Chattahoochee’s natural beauty. The paved, multi-use path—an improvement from the previous gravel path—will be designed for accessibility and enjoyment, offering scenic views, shaded areas, and an easy route for active transportation and recreation.
With its proximity to the river and future links to longer regional trails, this site will introduce even more visitors to the larger Chattahoochee RiverLands vision—a 100-mile network connecting communities from Buford Dam to Chattahoochee Bend State Park.
The Smyrna RiverLands Greenway trail segment builds on the momentum of the 2020 Chattahoochee RiverLands Greenway Study, which first outlined a bold vision for a 100-mile linear park reconnecting communities to the river. This vision began taking shape with the successful completion of the pilot project at Discovery Park at the River Line, which officially opened in December 2024. That 0.6-mile trail in Mableton demonstrated the power of a connected, community-centered greenway and laid the groundwork for expanding trail access along the river. Together, these efforts are part of a broader vision—the RiverLands Showcase Site—which will ultimately feature a regional trailhead as it’s southern anchor (tentatively named “RiverLands Gateway Park”), an ADA-accessible kayak launch, a boat ramp, and a 2.7-mile Greenway Trail linking Mableton Parkway to Riverview Landing in Smyrna.
Helping to shape a growing mosaic of connected trails, parks, and water access points, these Showcase Project elements highlight the Chattahoochee River’s role as a unifying thread through Cobb County and beyond—laying the foundation for a more accessible, inclusive, and inspiring relationship between communities and the river that defines them.
