The Chattahoochee Nature Center (CNC) is a is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and premier environmental education facility situated along the Chattahoochee River in Roswell, Georgia. Spanning 127 acres of diverse ecosystems—including woodlands, wetlands, and river habitats—CNC offers immersive experiences that connect visitors to the natural world. The center features direct river access along the quiet and peaceful River Boardwalk Trail, native plant gardens, live animal exhibits, and 2.5 miles of trails, serving as a vital hub for conservation, education, and recreation in the region.

the location

CNC is conveniently located near several parks and trails, including the Roswell Riverwalk Trail, Azalea Park, and Riverside Park. Its proximity to downtown Roswell provides easy access to dining, shopping, and cultural attractions. The center’s River Boardwalk Trail connects with the Roswell Riverwalk, allowing CNC visitors to extend their experience along miles of riverside trails, offering opportunities for hiking, paddling, and wildlife observation along the Chattahoochee River corridor.

  • River Boardwalk Trail: ADA-accessible path with river overlooks and wetland views 
  • Wildlife Walk: Live animal exhibits featuring non-releasable native raptors, reptiles, and mammals 
  • Discovery Center: Indoor, interactive exhibits featuring native animals, nature exchange, and educational programming 
  • Campus Gardens: 3 acres of Gardens, including the Pollinator Garden (part of the Rosalin Carter Butterfly Trail), Georgia’s Living Wetlands garden, Native Garden, and Unity Garden (an organic food garden that donates all produce to North Fulton Community Charities). 
  • Seasonal Exhibits: most popular is the Butterfly Encounter, a Walk-through exhibit open during summer months 
  • Canoe Programs: Guided paddling programs and trips, offered seasonally 
  • Special Events: Family Fun Days, festivals, concerts, and seasonal events such as our Halloween Hikes

Established in 1976, the Chattahoochee Nature Center was created to promote environmental stewardship and education in the Atlanta metropolitan area. The site’s rich history includes its past as farmland and its significance to indigenous communities and early settlers along the Chattahoochee River. Over the decades, CNC has expanded its mission to include wildlife rehabilitation, sustainability education, and regional conservation initiatives, becoming a cornerstone for environmental engagement in Georgia.
