Part of the Chattahoochee RiverLands Showcase Site in Cobb County and primely nestled within the historic and ecologically rich Discovery Park at the River Line, the Chattahoochee RiverLands Greenway Trail at Discovery Park at the River Line offers a welcoming space for walkers, runners, and cyclists of all ages and abilities. Designed for easy access and connection to nature, the trail invites visitors to experience a peaceful, riverside escape.
Discovery Park at the River Line features a diverse landscape of rolling hills and valleys with steep slopes, interwoven with multiple perennial and intermittent streams, wetlands, and open waters. Nickajack Creek winds through the site, alongside an existing water main owned by the Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority. The park also contains visible remnants of Civil War-era earthworks, highlighting the area’s historical significance. For more information on Discovery Park at the River Line, visit the Parks and Recreation page here.
Amid this rich natural and cultural setting, the Chattahoochee RiverLands Greenway Trail offers a 0.6-mile, 14-foot-wide paved path for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as an unpaved, pedestrian-only ramble trail. Despite the site’s varied topography, the trail provides a mostly flat, accessible route with minimal elevation change. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of the Chattahoochee River, Nickajack Creek, Cobb Beach, and the surrounding wetlands.
Following the 2020 Chattahoochee RiverLands Greenway Study, one of the prioritized objectives that emerged was to develop a pilot project on Cobb County-owned land between Mableton Parkway and Veterans Memorial Highway, along the west bank of the Chattahoochee River. The 0.6-mile Greenway Trail at Discovery Park at the River Line fulfills that goal, marking the completion of the Chattahoochee RiverLands Upper Pilot in Cobb County. This trail also anchors a broader vision—the RiverLands Showcase Site—which will include a regional trailhead (tentatively named “RiverLands Gateway Park”), an ADA-accessible kayak launch, a boat ramp, and a 2.7-mile Greenway Trail running from Mableton Parkway to Riverview Landing in Smyrna.
