Treats for Trails: Ice Cream Social Fundraiser @ Jeni’s
06.26.25| 4:00PM
Beat the heat and join National Park Service Ranger Jerry Hightower for a refreshing summer walk at Island Ford! We’ll explore the pond, visit Falling Branch to uncover hidden stream life, and stroll along the riverbank where wildlife sightings abound. Keep an eye out for geese, ducks, a great blue heron fishing in the shallows—or even a Midland Water Snake. With a little luck, we might spot an osprey or a soaring bald eagle!
Meeting Point: In front of the Island Ford Visitor Center
Facilities: Restrooms and water fountains are available inside the Visitor Center
Difficulty: Fairly easy walking on level ground around the pond. Slippery rocks and mud in and along Falling Branch. Brief uphill returning to Hewlett Lodge from River. Note: This walk is not suitable for very young children.
