Event details

Come walk on the wild (and winged) side!

Join the National Park Service for a magical twilight stroll through the Cochran Shoals unit of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. As twilight falls, we’ll head into the woods—not for vampire baseball, but to spot real nocturnal flyers: bats! This stretch of riverside, forest, and meadow is prime bat habitat—home to seven species, including the elusive tri-colored bat, currently being considered for listing under the Endangered Species Act. Keep your eyes peeled and ears tuned for fluttering wings as we explore their after-dark world.

Facilities: Interstate North – Cochran Shoals Park Unit, Water and restrooms available in the parking lot.

Trail Difficulty: Level gravel paths; accessible and beginner-friendly.

What to Bring: Water, weather-appropriate clothing, and comfortable walking shoes. Flashlights optional.

Please leave pets at home.

A $5 daily parking pass or annual pass is required at all Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area park units. You can purchase a day pass at the trailhead or online: https://www.nps.gov/chat/planyourvisit/fees.htm
