Join us for a special members-only paddle celebrating the anniversary of Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area! We’ll explore an iconic stretch of the river – the very section that inspired President Jimmy Carter to preserve this place as a national park in 1978.

This paddle from Powers Island to Paces Mill is an iconic section through the Palisades with scenic rock formations (3 miles, mostly flatwater with class I-II shoals).

This is a unique opportunity to experience the river’s beauty the way it moved a president and to celebrate the impact members like you make possible. See you on the river!

This program is in partnership with Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC) and all participants must complete NOC’s waiver prior to program start. Please complete the waiver included in your registration confirmation email. Thank you!

What’s Included

  • Your registration includes the option of 1- or 2-person inflatable kayaks rented from NOC, or choose to bring your own boat to be shuttled by NOC (if this option is selected, you must provide your own paddle and PFD).
  • NOC rentals includes an inflatable kayak, paddles, shuttle, and personal flotation device (PFD). Inflatable kayaks, or “duckies,” sit higher on the water than traditional kayaks, are stable and easy to maneuver.

What to Expect

  • NOC ducky trips will take approximately 3 – 5 hours total with 2 – 4 hours spent on the river. The remaining time will be spent in trip preparation and shuttle from the take-out at Paces Mill.
  • Please plan to arrive 30 minutes prior to start to allow time for parking and check-in. NOC guides will help guests get fitted for gear and can offer any instruction and tips on paddling before you begin.
