Event details

Celebrate the 47th birthday of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area with a gift of service! Established on August 15, 1978, this nationally recognized park is a vital green space in metro Atlanta—and now it’s your chance to show it some love. Join us for volunteer events throughout the week of August 11th – 16th to celebrate the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area’s Birthday!

We’ll be tackling two important projects at Powers Island:

  • Removing English ivy, a destructive invasive species that threatens native plants
  • Conducting a land-based trash cleanup along park trails, roads, and green spaces

What We’ll Provide:

  • Trash bags
  • Gloves (sizes available for youth and adults)
  • Litter grabbers (limited supply)

What to Bring / Wear:

  • Closed-toe shoes (required for trail work)
  • Weather-appropriate clothing (light layers, hat, etc.)
  • Refillable water bottle
  • Bug spray and sunscreen (recommended)
  • A love for nature and a willingness to pitch in!

Minimum age for our volunteers is 10 years old. Any volunteer 17 or under must be accompanied by an individual who is 18 or older.
