Time: 8:00AM-1:30PM
Location: CRK Paddle Cleanup below ATL
Host: Chattahoochee Riverkeeper

Event details

Chattahoochee Riverkeeper is pleased to host this paddle cleanup in partnership with Chattahoochee Hills, Chattahoochee Outdoors and Trust for Public Land.

We will be paddling 6 miles from the New Riverlands Park to the Coweta Riverside Park south of Atlanta. This section has moderate moving water and perfect for beginners and experienced paddlers.

Specific trip details, including the address of where we’ll be meeting, will be emailed to you a week prior to the trip date. Volunteers must provide their own kayak or canoe, paddling gear, water and lunch/snacks. CRK can provide a few sit-on-top kayaks as they are available. Additional details will be provided in your confirmation email.

We will meet at the put-in at 8 a.m., unload boats, then everyone drives to the takeout and we will shuttle back via a school bus. Tips appreciated for the drivers. Passengers (people who rode with someone else) will stay with the boats while we shuttle. We should conclude by 1-2pm.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
All participants must be able to swim efficiently. All participants must be able to get in and out of a kayak easily (i.e. those with knee or back injuries may have difficulty). Paddling uses your core muscles, arms, and shoulders. Anyone with injuries in these areas may have difficulty. Please consult your physician if you are concerned about participating.

AGE REQUIREMENTS
If paddling solo, paddlers must be at least 15 years old. If paddling tandem, youth must be at least 10 years old and accompanied by an adult at least 21 years old.

SAFETY POLICIES
The paddle will be called off if there is a threat of severe thunderstorms/lightning OR if the river is running high due to rain or an upstream release of water from dams.

This bridge could improve connections between existing and planned trail systems in Smyrna and Atlanta while creating new opportunities for recreation, mobility, and access to the river.
