Trust for Public Land

Connecting everyone

to the outdoors

Trust for Public Land (TPL) is a national nonprofit that works to connect everyone to the benefits and joys of the outdoors. As a leader in equitable access to the outdoors, TPL works with communities to create parks and protect public land where they are needed most.

In Georgia, TPL has spent the past three decades working along the Chattahoochee River —from Helen to Columbus—helping conserve, restore, and connect communities to this vital watershed. From early land acquisition to regional planning and public access initiatives, TPL’s Chattahoochee Program has evolved into a comprehensive, watershed-wide effort.

TPL’s work to help create the Chattahoochee RiverLands is setting a new standard for how trail systems can promote equity, health, and climate resilience in urban regions. Through close collaboration with local governments, community groups, and regional partners, TPL is working to reintroduce metro Atlanta to its river—creating a defining greenspace for the region through welcoming, connected places that reflect local identities and needs.

Chattahoochee

Working Group

The Chattahoochee Working Group is a stakeholder group convened to engage with each other on a regular basis to better understand Chattahoochee-related topics, agendas, and initiatives. This group will continue to meet to work towards implementing the Chattahoochee RiverLands Greenway Study’s vision and proposals. As member organizations initiate projects or launch advocacy efforts, this platform will be a space to disseminate information, gather input, and identify partnerships.

Chattahoochee RiverLands Pedestrian Trail Bridge

The City of Smyrna and Trust for Public Land are exploring a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge across the Chattahoochee River. This bridge could improve connections between existing and planned trail systems in Smyrna and Atlanta while creating new opportunities for recreation, mobility, and access to the river. Share your input on project priorities, potential uses, and how this connection could serve the community.
