June Pilot Site Steering Committee Meeting

The first Pilot Site Steering Committee Meeting took place on Tuesday, June 18, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Clubhouse at Legacy at the RiverLine. As part of the Chattahoochee RiverLands Greenway Study, the Project Team will develop a pilot project along a length of the Chattahoochee River in Cobb County including a conceptual layout and typical sections for a greenway trail segment between Mableton Parkway and Veterans Memorial Highway, with access points and overlooks. The Steering Committee is a small focus groups composed of Cobb County agencies, businesses, institutions, schools and community-based organizations led by Gresham Smith. At the meeting, Gresham Smith shared an inventory of existing conditions including initial thoughts about opportunities and constraints on the site before opening it up to the group for their thoughts. The second half of the meeting was more hands-on. Participants mapped their understanding of the site’s unique constraints and opportunities. Some of the big takeaways were the desire to prioritize direct access to the River but to keep the “Walk in the Woods” feel, the desire for people to go on family outings to the site, the desire to separate conflicting uses of trails including cycling vs pedestrian uses, and to respect the wide range of natural features on site.
