We’ll explore an iconic stretch of the river – the very section that inspired President Jimmy Carter to preserve this place as a national park in 1978. \nThis paddle from Powers Island to Paces Mill is an iconic section through the Palisades with scenic rock formations (3 miles\, mostly flatwater with class I-II shoals). \nThis is a unique opportunity to experience the river’s beauty the way it moved a president and to celebrate the impact members like you make possible. See you on the river! \nNot a member? Join today at chattahoocheeparks.org/join! \nRegistration is required and space is limited. Please email membership@chattahoocheeparks.org with any questions! \nThis program is in partnership with Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC) and all participants must complete NOC’s waiver prior to program start. Please complete the waiver included in your registration confirmation email. Thank you! \nWhat’s Included \n\nYour registration includes the option of 1- or 2-person inflatable kayaks rented from NOC\, or choose to bring your own boat to be shuttled by NOC (if this option is selected\, you must provide your own paddle and PFD).\nNOC rentals includes an inflatable kayak\, paddles\, shuttle\, and personal flotation device (PFD). Inflatable kayaks\, or “duckies\,” sit higher on the water than traditional kayaks\, are stable and easy to maneuver.\n\nWhat to Expect \n\nNOC ducky trips will take approximately 3 – 5 hours total with 2 – 4 hours spent on the river. The remaining time will be spent in trip preparation and shuttle from the take-out at Paces Mill.\nPlease plan to arrive 30 minutes prior to start to allow time for parking and check-in. NOC guides will help guests get fitted for gear and can offer any instruction and tips on paddling before you begin.\n\nEligibility & Requirements – NOC \n\nFor 1-person single duckies: Participants must be 11+ years of age. All minors (17 and under) must be accompanied by a participating adult during the activity. The maximum weight for this craft is 300 lbs.\nFor 2-person double duckies: Participants must be 5+ years of age and in the craft with an adult at all times. All minors (17 and under) must be accompanied by a participating adult during the activity. The maximum combined weight for this craft is 500 lbs.\nParticipants must be capable of walking on flat mixed surfaces for 200 yards to and from the river access. Participants must be willing and able to carry equipment\, kayak\, paddles\, and any personal equipment to river access points. Guides are available to help move equipment for those that require assistance. If participant wishes to explore surrounding river area\, walking on rocky\, wet\, slippery\, or varied surfaces will be required.\n\nPacking List \n\nGuests should wear shoes that stay securely on your feet\, quick-dry clothing\, swimsuit\, sunscreen\, and sunglasses.\n\nFood\, Drinks\, & more \n\nThe NOC Outpost store at Powers Island offers t-shirts\, snacks\, sunblock\, and other river essentials.\n\nNote: This paddle will proceed rain or shine. However\, it will be canceled if river flows exceed 5\,000 CFS\, if E. coli levels are high\, or in the event of lightning. Participants will be notified via phone in the event of cancellation.

Join us for volunteer events throughout the week of August 11th – 16th to celebrate the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area’s Birthday! \nVolunteer Activity: \nVolunteers will participate in a land-based trash cleanup focused on removing litter from trails\, roadsides\, and public areas around the Paces Mill unit. \nWhat We’ll Provide: \n\nTrash bags\nGloves (sizes available for youth and adults)\nLitter grabbers (limited supply)\n\nWhat to Bring / Wear: \n\nClosed-toe shoes (required for trail work)\nWeather-appropriate clothing (light layers\, hat\, etc.)\nRefillable water bottle\nBug spray and sunscreen (recommended)\nA love for nature and a willingness to pitch in!\n\nMinimum age for our volunteers is 10 years old. SUMMARY:BLOOD ROCK RIDGE LOOP TRAIL HIKE
DESCRIPTION:Join National Park Service Naturalist\, Jerry Hightower\, for a fairly leisurely hike along the river\, across scenic Rottenwood Creek\, and through the forest around Blood Rock Ridge. This is a wonderful opportunity to view Great Blue Herons fishing\, hear the call of the Belted Kingfisher\, and see signs of wildlife\, and a bit of geology.. Learn fascinating facts and a fable or two about the diverse and abundant wildlife. Enjoy great views of Long Island Shoals as you walk along the trails and learn the grim story of Lightening Rock. Along the trail we will look for wildlife signs and\, with the leaves mostly gone\, we will be able to better appreciate the topography of this area of the river corridor; so please join us. \nLocation: We will meet in front of the Paces Mill restroom building; 3445 Cobb Parkway\, Atlanta\, Georgia 30339 \nFacilities: Restrooms at parking area \nDifficulty: Moderately easy with a 100 meter steep section and climb over uneven rocks at Lightening Rock. These walks are quite slow with numerous stops to discuss items of interest along the way. Note: This walk is not suitable for very young children. \nBring: Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes suitable for walking on a forest trail. Dress in layers so that you can adjust to changes in the temperature and activity level. A hat\, scarf\, and gloves might be a good idea. Bring water and you might include snacks. You may wish to bring binoculars and a hand lens. Note: A daily entrance fee or annual pass is needed.
