DESCRIPTION:Run\, don’t walk and celebrate with us at the Camp + Paddle Trail Ribbon Cutting in Chattahoochee Hills  \nCome celebrate the opening of two overnight camp sites\, Campbellton Park and New RiverLands Park\, the later of which provides a new accessible kayak launch into the Chattahoochee River. These two sites will connect the region with a vital natural resource and provide access to the joys of the outdoors!  \nEvent details are forthcoming. \nCampbellton Park and New RiverLands Park will serve as overnight stops three and four of the Chattahoochee Camp+Paddle Trail. This trail offers an opportunity to explore 48 miles of the Chattahoochee River over a three-night\, four-day itinerary. 🗺️ The journey begins at Peachtree Creek in North Atlanta and ends at McIntosh Reserve in Carroll County. The amenities at include a new accessible kayak launch\, restroom/shower pavilions\, tent campsites\, grills\, fire pit nooks and gathering spaces. Become pond scientists and look through the wet leaves collected at the edge of the pond for the aquatic stage nymphs of dragonflies and damselflies along with weird and wonderful insects of all sorts. Find tadpoles\, minnows\, newts\, and scuds! Learn about the tiny\, but fierce pond predators\, life cycles\, and more cool facts about the living pond community. This is an exciting and fun activity for persons of all ages. Identification guides will be available so that you can identify the “tiny monsters” you have found. This is a terrific and very fun activity. Please join us. This is a casual and informal activity and you may come and go as you please. \nDifficulty: The walk from the parking lot is very short. \nBring: Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes suitable for walking on a forest trail. Dress in \nlayers so that you can adjust to changes in the temperature and activity level. Help us preserve and enhance the beauty of our park by participating in this community cleanup effort! \nWe’ll begin our day by meeting in front of the covered bridge at Old Mill Park at 10 AM. We will walk as a group across the bridge to pick up trash along the water and trails of the Vickery Creek Unit. All necessary supplies will be provided\, including trash pickers\, gloves\, and trash bags. In partnership with Birds Georgia\, we will be completing varying tasks including: \n– Removing Invasive Species: Help us remove invasive plants that hinder the growth of native flora and harm local wildlife. \n– Preparing the Wildlife Sanctuary for the New Season: Assist in planting and nurturing native plants to create a welcoming habitat for wildlife. \n– Supporting Habitat Restoration: Learn about the importance of biodiversity and contribute to establishing a sanctuary for birds\, bees\, butterflies\, and other local fauna. \nWe welcome volunteers of all ages and skill levels. Whether you’re an experienced gardener or just eager to lend a hand\, your participation is greatly appreciated. \nThis event will take place rain or shine\, however it will be rescheduled in the event of severe weather including thunderstorms or flood warnings. SUMMARY:Chattahoochee River Camp & Paddle
DESCRIPTION:Join Georgia Rivers for our inaugural journey on the Chattahoochee River’s newest paddle-in campsites along the river in South Fulton County. Part of the Chattahoochee RiverLands project\, the paddle-in campsites feature restroom and shower facilities\, tent sites and other amenities. This journey will make use of campsites at Campbellton and Chattahoochee Hills\, covering 28 miles of the scenic and historic Chattahoochee. We’ll camp Friday night at Campbellton\, paddle 16 miles on Saturday to Chattahoochee Hills\, camp again\, and then finish out the trip with a 12-mile float to McIntosh Reserve in Carroll County.\n\nRegistration fees include guide services and maps\, shuttle services\, catered breakfasts and dinners and evening educational programs. Participants may choose to carry their camp gear in their boats or have it shuttled campsite to campsite by Georgia Rivers staff. Participants should plan their own lunch food and on-river snacks. Rental boats can be reserved during registration. \nREGISTRATION OPENS DEC. 28 at 8 a.m.! \nSKILL LEVEL REQUIRED–The trip is mostly flatwater with some Class I shoals.
