DESCRIPTION:Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens will be joining TPL for the groundbreaking of the first project to deliver upon his promise to open the Chattahoochee River to the public. Join us Thursday\, November 2nd at 10am at Standing Peachtree Greenspace. \nThe Standing Peachtree site will serve as the northernmost site of the Chattahoochee Camp+Paddle Trail. This trail offers an opportunity to explore 48 miles of the Chattahoochee River over a three-night\, four-day itinerary. The journey begins at Peachtree Creek in North Atlanta and ends at  McIntosh Reserve in Carroll County. The upcoming construction at Standing Peachtree includes the addition of an accessible kayak launch\, a fully accessible path to the river\, woodland restoration\, and upgrades to the access road on site. \n

DESCRIPTION:Join Trust for Public Land and Chattahoochee Hills on September 8th 2-3pm at RiverLands Park for the Chattahoochee Camp+Paddle Trail Groundbreaking in Chattahoochee Hills\nThe Chattahoochee Camp+Paddle Trail once completed will connect 5 sites and 4 jurisdictions along 48 miles of river for 4 Days & 3 Nights of Connected Recreation. In partnership with the City of Atlanta\, Fulton County\, the City of Chattahoochee Hills\, and Carroll County\, and with a $2.2 million Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program Grant from Georgia Department of Natural Resources\, we identified a launch site\, three priority campsites\, and a takeout site. \nChattahoochee Hills will be home to two of the five Chattahoochee Camp+Paddle Trail sites set to open Summer 2024. One of those sites is an existing park\, Campbellton Park\, will feature new amenities such as a beautifully designed restroom and shower pavilion\, trails\, primitive campsites\, and a new pollinator garden. The other site\, RiverLands Park\, where the groundbreaking ceremony will take place\, will open to the public next year as a new park in Chattahoochee Hills and will feature similar amenities as Campbellton\, along with a new kayak launch. \nWe cant wait to see these features come to life! \n

DESCRIPTION:Volunteers will be led by TPL staff to prepare the RiverLands Gateway Park site for guided tours and events while we begin the design of the site. The RiverLands Gateway Park is the southern anchor of a 2.7-mile section of greenway trail being designed and built by Trust for Public Land\, Cobb County\, and Smyrna.  \nVolunteers will be removing invasive plants including privet and vines and other under story plants in work area\, clearing trails\, and removing trash and other debris left behind from mowing. The volunteers will use shovels along with hand pulling\, and other small equipment such as string trimmers\, blowers\, weed wrenches\, and pruners as they are comfortable. \nWe suggest volunteers wear long pants\, long sleeves\, a hat\, sturdy shoes\, and sun protection\, and bring water. If you have a string trimmer\, shovel\, hand pruners\, and/or gloves please bring them with you. We will provide gloves to those who need them.  \nMeeting point coordinates: 33.780097\, -84.534521 \nThis site does not have an address. It is located at the intersection of Discovery Blvd. and Mableton Pkwy. There is a driveway entrance on Mableton Pkwy just west of the river. Work will be supervised by Georgia Audubon\, and we need your help at Campbellton Park. \nConnect with the Georgia Audubon staff to learn the importance of native plants and habitats for birds and other wildlife while helping to remove non-native weeds and other undesirable species from the garden space. \nWhat to bring? \n\nWater\nDress according to the weather and the work being done; chance of encountering poison ivy\, insects\, arachnids\, etc.\nClose-toed shoes – boots recommended\nRecommended but not required: sunglasses\, binoculars (it’s a great spot for birding!)\n\nWhat to expect? \nAfter introductions\, we will go over the specific tasks we will be working on.
