SUMMARY:Braiding Time\, Memory\, and Water
DESCRIPTION:  \nBraiding Time\, Memory and Water is a site-specific\, environmental (earth) artistic creation by Sue Schroeder alongside and in collaboration with conceptual artist Jonathon Keats and composer Felipe Pérez Santiago. The performance\, including an ensemble of dance artists and percussion\, responds to the geography\, history\, and environmental concerns of two locations along the Chattahoochee River as it meanders through the Atlanta metropolitan area: Powers Island\, one of the most serene sections of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area\, and Zonalite Park\, a 13-acre nature sanctuary along the Southfork of Peachtree Creek\, a tributary of the Chattahoochee River. \nAt these performance sites (October 19 & 20\, 2024 at Powers Island and April 26 & 27\, 2025 at Zonalite Park) the work will follow the braiding paths of the water over the duration of approximately an hour. With the braid as central to the creative action of the performance\, the work follows the naturally occurring form that is composed and performed by water as it flows. The composition is inscribed in the land through ongoing passage\, which varies based on fluctuations in flow rate. The river\, therefore\, acts as a natural timekeeper and a collaborator in the performance(s). Ambient sound and field recordings integrated into a larger sound composition further nature’s collaboration in the work. \nTime: Performances will be held daily at 2:30 and 5:00.  In between performances\, approximately 3:30 to 4:45\, there will be community workshops where audience members can make musical instruments from natural materials. \n  \nVIEW MORE DETAILS

SUMMARY:Chattahoochee Brick Community Education Series: Brick by Brick - Building Atlanta\, Criminal Justice\, & Race
DESCRIPTION:Brick by Brick: Building Atlanta\, Criminal Justice\, and Race\nMany Atlanta residents are unaware of the enormous quantity of brick required to build the city we know today. Not only were buildings made of brick\, but also streets\, sewers\, and sidewalks. This seminar will provide valuable information about brick and its role in building the Gateway City. The talk also will explore the dynamics of race in the city “too busy to hate\,” as Atlanta’s built environment is racial—then\, and now. The Chattahoochee Brick Company site\, and its practices\, provide meaningful insights into matters of race\, social politics\, and crime reform that are relevant today. \nSaturday\, June 15 · 1 – 3pm EDT \nJimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum \n441 John Lewis Freedom Parkway Northeast Atlanta\, GA 30307 \n  \nReserve Your Spot: REGISTER

SUMMARY:CRK Paddle Cleanup below ATL
DESCRIPTION:Chattahoochee Riverkeeper is pleased to host this paddle cleanup in partnership with the City of Chattahoochee Hills\, and Georgia DNR and Wildlife Resources Division. We will be paddling from the Highway 166 DNR Boat Ramp to Campbellton Park Boat Ramp in south Fulton near Chattahoochee Hills. This 5-mile section of river is mostly slow moving with a few moderate riffles. \nSpecific trip details\, including the address of where we’ll be meeting\, will be emailed to you a few days prior to the trip date. Volunteers must provide their own kayak or canoe\, paddling gear\, water and lunch/snacks. CRK can provide a few sit-on-top kayaks as they are available. Additional details will be provided in your confirmation email. \nWe will meet at the put-in at 8 a.m.\, unload boats\, then drive to the take-out. A shuttle van will return us to the put-in. Estimated time to paddle is 9 am and end between 1 and 2pm. Plan to bring a lunch/snacks for after the trip as there are no stopping points in this section. \nAll participants must be able to swim efficiently and get in and out of a kayak easily (i.e. those with knee or back injuries may have difficulty). Paddling uses your core muscles\, arms\, and shoulders. Anyone with injuries in these areas may have difficulty. Please consult your physician if you are concerned about participating. \nIf paddling solo\, the paddler must be at least 15 years old and accompanied by a parent/guardian. If paddling tandem\, youth must be at least 8 years of age and accompanied by an adult at least 21 years.

SUMMARY:BLOOD ROCK RIDGE LOOP TRAIL HIKE
DESCRIPTION:Join National Park Service Naturalist\, Jerry Hightower\, for a fairly leisurely hike along the river\, across scenic Rottenwood Creek\, and through the forest around Blood Rock Ridge. This is a wonderful opportunity to view Great Blue Herons fishing\, hear the call of the Belted Kingfisher\, and see signs of wildlife\, and a bit of geology.. Learn fascinating facts and a fable or two about the diverse and abundant wildlife. Enjoy great views of Long Island Shoals as you walk along the trails and learn the grim story of Lightening Rock. Along the trail we will look for wildlife signs and\, with the leaves mostly gone\, we will be able to better appreciate the topography of this area of the river corridor; so please join us. \nLocation: We will meet in front of the Paces Mill restroom building; 3445 Cobb Parkway\, Atlanta\, Georgia 30339 \nFacilities: Restrooms at parking area \nDifficulty: Moderately easy with a 100 meter steep section and climb over uneven rocks at Lightening Rock. These walks are quite slow with numerous stops to discuss items of interest along the way. Note: This walk is not suitable for very young children. \nBring: Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes suitable for walking on a forest trail. Dress in layers so that you can adjust to changes in the temperature and activity level. A hat\, scarf\, and gloves might be a good idea. Bring water and you might include snacks. You may wish to bring binoculars and a hand lens. Note: A daily entrance fee or annual pass is needed.
