SUMMARY:BLOOD ROCK RIDGE LOOP TRAIL HIKE
DESCRIPTION:Join National Park Service Naturalist\, Jerry Hightower\, for a fairly leisurely hike along the river\, across scenic Rottenwood Creek\, and through the forest around Blood Rock Ridge. This is a wonderful opportunity to view Great Blue Herons fishing\, hear the call of the Belted Kingfisher\, and see signs of wildlife\, and a bit of geology.. Learn fascinating facts and a fable or two about the diverse and abundant wildlife. Enjoy great views of Long Island Shoals as you walk along the trails and learn the grim story of Lightening Rock. Along the trail we will look for wildlife signs and\, with the leaves mostly gone\, we will be able to better appreciate the topography of this area of the river corridor; so please join us. \nLocation: We will meet in front of the Paces Mill restroom building; 3445 Cobb Parkway\, Atlanta\, Georgia 30339 \nFacilities: Restrooms at parking area \nDifficulty: Moderately easy with a 100 meter steep section and climb over uneven rocks at Lightening Rock. These walks are quite slow with numerous stops to discuss items of interest along the way. Note: This walk is not suitable for very young children. \nBring: Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes suitable for walking on a forest trail. Dress in layers so that you can adjust to changes in the temperature and activity level. A hat\, scarf\, and gloves might be a good idea. Bring water and you might include snacks. You may wish to bring binoculars and a hand lens. Note: A daily entrance fee or annual pass is needed.

SUMMARY:Sweep the Hooch
DESCRIPTION:Chattahoochee RiverLands is proud to be a cleanup site for Sweep the Hooch – held March 23\, 9am to 12pm! \nBack for the 14th year\, Sweep the Hooch is an annual day of service to the Chattahoochee River watershed\, mobilizing volunteers on foot\, in waders\, or kayak/canoe paddlers to remove trash at locations throughout the watershed. Sweep the Hooch brings people together to give back to the mighty river that gives us so much. At last year’s cleanup\, more than 1\,500 volunteers worked together to remove a cumulative 32 tons of trash. Of that\, more than 3 tons were recycled. \n  \nAdvance registration is required but participation is free. Click here to register – https://chattahoochee.org/sweep-the-hooch/ \n  \nAnd most important – this event could not happen without YOU all stepping up and leading a site. Thank you for being part of such a huge community event. \n

SUMMARY:CRK and TPL Atlanta Cleanup\, Jan 6
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to host this land-based cleanup in partnership with the Trust for Public Land to continue our efforts towards a trash-free Chattahoochee on Saturday\, January 6th – 10am to 1pm. \nThe location for the cleanup will be ITP on a tributary to the river. The exact address will be provided to registered volunteers a few days prior to the event. Why? Because rain events move the trash and we want to pick a location that needs our attention the most. Gloves and cleanup supplies provided. \nWill I get dirty and potentially wet? YES!\nWhether land based or paddling\, all our cleanups involve getting in or around the river or a tributary – this is where the trash is. But there are opportunities to stay dry. Either way\, we promise you’ll have fun! \nThank you for volunteering! \nREGISTER : https://chattahoochee.wufoo.com/forms/crk-and-tpl-atlanta-cleanup-jan-6/

DESCRIPTION:  \nWhy did Atlantans stop visiting the Chattahoochee River? We drive our cars over it and draw our drinking water from it.  But where can our river be visited and enjoyed? Join Drift the Map and the Museum of Design Atlanta for a peek at Chattahoochee NOW’s vision to reclaim miles of Atlanta’s hidden riverfront with a network of farms\, forests\, parks\, and nature preserves. \nMeet us December 9 at 2 p.m. at Standing Peachtree Park\, 2630 Ridgewood Road NW\, Atlanta. Wear sneakers for this two hour walk exploring the forest\, climbing riverbanks and walking the industrial neighborhood around the river.  This site where Peachtree Creek empties into the Chattahoochee is one of the most interesting and historic places in Atlanta.  The trail that led to this trading post between the Muscogee and Cherokee nations eventually became Atlanta’s famous Peachtree Road.  The beauty and history of the river is so great here that it seems barely diminished by the surrounding sewage treatment plant\, asphalt plant\, landfill\, railroad\, and busy traffic overpass. \nMore info at silvermanphoto.com/driftthemap \nHope to see you there! \nJoel Silverman and Mira Silverman\, facilitators \nDrift the Map is a program of Thread ATL\, a nonprofit organization advocating for improved urbanism in the City of Atlanta.
