DESCRIPTION:Join Us for our Second Saturday Sweep: Chattahoochee Community Cleanup! Each month\, Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy hosts a cleanup at one of the park units along Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. It is a great way to explore more of the beautiful 66 miles of trails and 48 miles of river the National Park Service protects. Help us protect and preserve the beauty of the Chattahoochee River by participating in this community cleanup effort! We will begin our day by meeting in the parking lot of the Indian Trail – East Palisades at 10 AM. We will walk as a group across the bridge to pick up trash along the water and trail of the East Palisades Unit. All necessary supplies will be provided\, including trash pickers\, gloves\, and trash bags. This cleanup takes place in a hiking environment\, so please wear appropriate clothes and sturdy shoes suitable for outdoor activities. \nWe recommend: \n\nComfortable\, long sleeved pants and shirt\nClosed-toe shoes with good traction (hiking boots or sturdy sneakers)\nA hat and sunscreen for sun protection\n\nCome make a difference for the community and our environment. We’ll explore the pond\, visit Falling Branch to uncover hidden stream life\, and stroll along the riverbank where wildlife sightings abound. Keep an eye out for geese\, ducks\, a great blue heron fishing in the shallows—or even a Midland Water Snake. With a little luck\, we might spot an osprey or a soaring bald eagle! \nMeeting Point: In front of the Island Ford Visitor Center \nFacilities: Restrooms and water fountains are available inside the Visitor Center \nDifficulty: Fairly easy walking on level ground around the pond. Slippery rocks and mud in and along Falling Branch. SUMMARY:NPS Campfire Program: Water Wonders & H2O Olympics
DESCRIPTION:Join the National Park Service a hands-on program investigating the stunning physical feats of water. Visit several stations to see how many drops of water you can place on a penny before it spills over or how many pennies that you can get into a cup of water before it spills over. Can you float paper clips? Join us and find out. This will be loads of fun followed by a very leisurely stroll to the river. Along the edge of the river\, you will see old water oaks\, river birch\, black walnuts\, and sycamores. We will discover plants used by the indigenous people and early settlers for food\, medicine\, and dye. We might catch a glimpse of an Osprey or a Great Blue Heron taking flight. Along the trail we will look for wildlife signs\, summer wildflowers\, and ferns. End the beautiful summer evening around the campfire and enjoy the ambiance of the twilight. This is a BYOM event (bring your own marshmallows). You are welcome to roast marshmallows using our great roasting forks. Please join us and enjoy the sight and sounds of twilight along the river. You are welcome to come early and bring a picnic. \nParking is limited and carpooling is encouraged. \nFacilities: Located in the Center’s Lodge. \nDifficulty: Easy level walking \nBring: Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes suitable for walking on a forest trail. Help us protect and preserve the beauty of the Chattahoochee River by participating in this community cleanup effort! We will begin our day by meeting at the trailhead in the parking lot of the Powers Island Unit at 10 AM. We will walk as a group across the bridge to pick up trash along the water and trail of the Powers Island Unit. All necessary supplies will be provided\, including trash pickers\, gloves\, and trash bags. DESCRIPTION:Join Self-Preservation Society and West Atlanta Watershed Alliance for a friendly introduction to kayaking with Sylvester Pierce—an ACA-certified instructor and founder of the Self-Preservation Society. Whether you’re a total beginner or just looking to get back on the water\, this is a great chance to learn the basics in a supportive setting. \nRegistration Cost: $25 \nRegistration will close at 11:59 PM July 15th or when we reach capacity. DESCRIPTION:Chattahoochee Riverkeeper is pleased to host this paddle cleanup in partnership with Chattahoochee Hills\, Trust for Public Land\, and Heard County Outfitters. \nWe will be paddling 6 miles from the New Riverlands Park to the Coweta Riverside Park south of Atlanta. This section has moderate moving water and perfect for beginners and experienced paddlers. \nSpecific trip details\, including the address of where we’ll be meeting\, will be emailed to you a week prior to the trip date. Volunteers must provide their own kayak or canoe\, paddling gear\, water and lunch/snacks. CRK can provide a few sit-on-top kayaks as they are available. Additional details will be provided in your confirmation email. \nWe will meet at the put-in at 8 a.m.\, unload boats\, then everyone drives to the takeout and shuttle back via Heard County Outfitters. Tips appreciated for the drivers. Passengers (people who rode with someone else) will stay with the boats while we shuttle.
