SUMMARY:Georgia Rivers Annual Camp and Paddle Trip
DESCRIPTION:Believe it or not\, within the confines of Fulton County\, you can venture on multi-day canoe/kayak camping adventures on the Chattahoochee River thanks to newly-developed paddle-in campsites that feature covered and electrified pavilions and picnic areas\, restrooms\, showers and primitive tent sites. Georgia Rivers and the Trust for Public Land will introduce you to these amenities on this 28-mile journey from Campbellton to Carroll County. We’ll camp Friday night at Campbellton\, paddle 16 miles on Saturday to the new Chattahoochee Hills RiverLands Park\, camp again\, and then finish out the trip with a 12-mile float to McIntosh Reserve Park. Long written off as “too polluted to paddle” because of failing sewage systems in metro Atlanta\, the river downstream of the big city has undergone a revival over the last 30 years as the area’s sewage systems have largely come into compliance with clean water laws. Today\, it is has reclaimed its historic place as a destination for boaters and anglers\, and you’ll be surprised at the beauty you’ll encounter in this forgotten stretch of river. The mostly flat water route is interrupted occasionally by shoals and the riverside scenery is mostly rural and wild. This is a recovered hidden gem waiting to be discovered. And\, the best part: top-notch camping facilities await intrepid adventurers! Registration fees include guide services and maps\, shuttle services\, catered breakfasts and dinners\, swag and evening educational programs. Participants should plan their own on-river lunches and snacks. Participants may choose to carry their camp gear in their boats or have it shuttled campsite to campsite by Georgia Rivers staff. Rental boats can be reserved during registration \nSkill Level Required:\nThis route features mostly flatwater with some shoals and small rapids. It is suitable for all skill levels from novice to expert. \nRegister\nRegistration opens Dec. 22 at 8 a.m. Registration fees range from $130 to $300 with discounts for families and young adults age 18-30. Registration closes April 24 or when full. Registration fees include guide services\, river maps\, shuttle service\, four catered meals\, swag\, campsite with restrooms and showers and educational programs. Detailed information about meeting times and locations will be e-mailed to all registered participants one to two weeks prior to the event. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER! \nApply for a Scholarship:\nA limited number of scholarships to encourage women\, people of color\, recent immigrants and low-income individuals and families to participate are available. Apply for a scholarship HERE!

SUMMARY:New Riverlands Park Master Plan - Community Event
DESCRIPTION:New RiverLands Park\, one of the catalytic sites identified by the RiverLands Master Plan\, is expanding! While a new pavilion\, kayak launch\, and campgrounds are already open and available to the public\, the bulk of the 290+ acre property remains inaccessible. The City of Chattahoochee Hills\, in collaboration with Trust for Public Land and Chattahoochee Now\, is ready to begin the master planning process for the rest of the site. The resulting plan will define the future uses of this land and create opportunities for greater regional connectivity aligned with the RiverLands vision. \nChattahoochee Now has engaged with HGOR\, an Atlanta design firm\, to develop the master plan. The team has already begun studying the site and will be looking to engage with Chattahoochee Hills residents this summer to understand what you want to see in your park. \nThe first of two community meetings will be held at the New RiverLands Park Pavilion on Saturday\, June 6th from 10am-12pm. The design team will present the project’s goals and research to date and invite you to share your ideas. All are welcome to participate. The pavilion is ADA accessible with dedicated parking for those who need it. Children are welcome\, and activities will be provided for their participation. Please come out and enjoy the day with us! \nPlease be on the lookout for additional project updates through the RiverLands social media accounts and event page here: https://www.chattahoocheeriverlands.com/upcoming-events/ \nYou can also sign up for the City of Chattahoochee Hill’s regular newsletter here: https://www.chatthillsga.us/residents/stay_connected.php \nVisit the official project webpage here: https://www.chatthillsga.us/visitors/riverlands.php \n
